In Innenraum, Ciria evokes the notion of silence proposing an artistic experience in which the receiver, in order to experience it in its entirety, needs to be stimulated by the sculpture (whether in its visual form or recorded as a memory trace) and the music. A new element is born from a borderland space orbited by both disciplines. Internal Space I: Around Emptiness alludes to the eponymous series of monumental steel sculptures created by Eduardo Chillida in the mid-20th century. This composition not only emphasises the liminal aspect of artistic creation and the possibility of becoming a space on convergence, but also the special musical skill required to enable it to squeeze into a “borderline crevice”. Ciria’s compositional oeuvre revolves around silence to such an extent that is effectively becomes an aesthetic counterpart to the void, an act of foundation for forging a place, Chillida’s mute vibration.
