Glossolalia

“Speak in new tongues”, “various kinds of tongues (languages)”, “divided tongues as of fire appeared to them”, “every man heard them speak in his own language”… This is what the Bible says about Glossolalia (speaking in tongues), which inspired me to write this piece. The work is based on the story of Pentecost where the Disciples of Christ received the Holy Spirit in the Upper Room (Acts 2:1-13). The Lord’s Prayer is used in several languages as the fundamental text, but always mixed fragmentarily, in order to avoid direct perception, because I hope the audience will experience the event as if they were there.This piece was premiered in the frame of International Rautavaara Chamber Choir Competition and Time of Music Festival (Finland) on 7th. July 2012 and its recording was produced by the Finnish Broadcasting Company (Yle)
