Trois Poèmes d'amour Sensuels (Three Sensual Love Poems) comprise poems choosing from various epochs. The first piece Love’s Draft begins with a subtle and impressionistic-like introduction announced by the piano. The harmonic language of this movement is diatonic and modal. Several climaxes are reinforced by means of various intense gestures at the piano part. The second piece Summer Doorway tends to be more agitated and passionate, and the harmonic materials in association with the vocal part are more chromatic but deeply expressive in character. The last movement comprises pandiatonic materials while intermingling with chromatic elements, reflecting the amalgamation of contrasting materials in this movement. Generally speaking, numerous word paintings are involved in the three songs in which the piano part plays an important role in depicting and realizing the images, scenes, and emotions of the poems.
