Notes sur cette pièce
August Frommer (1922-2003) was a visionary researcher who dedicated his life from early childhood on and under acceptance of adverse conditions and deprivation to the invention of the “perfect machine”. Without any previous scientific basis, his intention was to invent a machine that, once in movement (after an external impulse) would remain in a continuous movement by itself, a so called “perpetuum mobile”. He put a lot of effort in travelling around the mountainous foothills of the Alps by bike, starting from his hometown Wasserburg/Inn, always on the look of new raw material and building material for his research. This material he would then gather and archive in his small apartment. Until his death in November 2003, having led a live of poverty and isolation during his last years, he never gave up hope to successfully accomplish his plans and always pursued his dream. Analogous to Frommer’s way of life and working methods, which are anachronistic and modern at the same time, in my composition “found material” as opposite to “invented material” is continuously being specified and led into the narrowness of the chamber music setting of the string trio.
