Impedance

The title of the piece, impedance, is at same time an allusion to the physical concept – "a measure of opposition to motion of a structure subjected to a force" – and to the words “impetus” and “dance”. Although the piece did not used any physical/acoustic model, the physical term that entitles the piece is a metaphor to the many metric modulations, incomplete tuplets and rhythmic contrasts, as if the different tempi had different “characteristic impedances”. The composition was premiered and recorded by members of Camerata Aberta in 2010 and Roberto Victorio (conductor), in Campos do Jordão International Winter Festival (Brazil). In this occasion, impedance was awarded with the 1st Prize in the Camargo Guarnieri Composition Prize.
