The piece was originally created to accompany the projection of the video “Der heroische Pfeil” created in 1930 by Bauhaus artist Kurt Kranz, but since the beginning of my work on it I decided to realize a music that could also be performed alone. The video shows the journey of an arrow, travelling to the right side of the screen and facing different obstacles, until it reaches a point of balance by turning into a cyrcle.
The music is inspired by the video, by its theme and structural organization, and it mirrors the idea of the journey: the work is shaped around the sound of the horn prepared with a kazoo, and the piece is a discovery of this sound, from the first section when the horn is barely playing, to the second part where it is thorned between two opposite groups, the winds and the strings instruments, until the last part where everything is finally static, and the prepared horn is the soloist, drawing a line suspended in a wide empty acoustic environment.
