Notes sur cette pièce The musical gesture used to be considered as an action that executes musical elements constituted of discrete parameters (pitches, durations, dynamics).
By focusing the composition on the internal energy of instrumental gesture, we encounter several new questions about its relationships with the musical notation and writing: How to note the gestures with their temporalities and particularities? How to integrate them in a symbolic system? And, how to capture their internal energy?
In order to go into these questions thoroughly, we need to consider the gesture through its complexity, from the light that the actual state of technologies shed on us.
As spectral music has done with the sound, Skin’s Traces is a zoom into the gestures, on the particular case of a simple but very sensitive instrument. Skin’s traces valorise the coincidence between time of gestures and time of sounds, exploring the skin as a metaphor of the limit, as a space of irregularities, as a matter of sensuality.
The graphical notation of Skin’s Trace’s score uses an analogical relationship between the emotion of gestures and a system of diffuse plastic signs, wrote by traditional Japanese brushes.
Coming from their micro-temporalities to the macro-temporality of form, the writing of piece gives a light to the implicit multiplicity of gestures, and brings to the listener a space where a trace can emerge: this trace is, perhaps, the identity of piece.
