Notes sur cette pièce Hermógenes Cayo
This piece is based on the etnobiographical documentary Hermógenes Cayo made by Jorge Prelorán between 1966 and 1967 (one of Prelorán’s group of films that show different Argentinian folkloric expressions). In the movie, Hermógenes Cayo -a woodcarver and painter of religious images who lives in the high Andean plateau of Argentina- narrates part of his life.In the musical piece, the text that is heard is a faithful selection of Cayo’s words that respect his peculiar repetition of words and longer vowels. The work seeks to represent the cultural syncretism between the original culture of America and that from Europe that is present in the discourse of Hermógenes Cayo.
