When my dear friend Piotr Grella-Mozejko asked me to write a piece for oboe and electronics and introduced me to the wonderful Polish oboe player Aleksandra Panasik, I was thrilled to explore the universe of this instrument by the hand of such an outstanding musician.
En dirección al mar, bajo la luz del búho (Seaward by owl-light), takes its title from the Mexican poet María Baranda who also alludes to a poem by Dylan Thomas. So, it is a poetic journey in which the electronic part colours the timbre of the oboe. This piece can be played with or without electronics, which was also part of the challenge. It is dedicated to Aleksandra (Ola) Panasik and to Poitr, of course.
