Notes sur cette pièce
Utmarker (outskirts/ fringes) (2008/2011)for string quartet
This piece was mainly composed during a period in which re-evaluation of my own musical clichés and manners were in focus. I searched for some sort of point-zero in my writing. A position where I could begin to unveil the contours of a new language. A musical language that would harmonise more with my aestethic inclinations in general. This process was accompanied by readings of the Swedish author Stig Larsson (not Stieg Larsson), an authorship that greatly touches upon the feeling and approach of this piece.
"For a long time I had carried the notion of a place of complete nothingness, of a street, a square or a lawn where I regardless of in which direction TI bent could not perceive a scent, a place where no individual sound was louder than the other, a place where everything came together to an even rumble, an outstretched greyness." - Stig Larsson, excerpt (my poor translation) from the novel the Autistics (1979)
