Jubilee, Jubilate

Commissioned by CoMA contemporary music center for Axelsson & Nilsson Duo and Musica Vitae. “Jubilee” and “jubilate” are two words both have meaning of joy and celebration. The piece is dedicated for my parents’ 50th anniversary of marriage. The use of tambourine, temple blocks and guiro as the principle percussion instruments gives the piece an overall dancing mood, sometimes with humorous tone. The texture of the 15 strings is very transparent and the orchestra is not meant to play a mere accompany role in the piece, but rather actively participate in the dialogue with the two soloists.
