‘Topographie Imaginaire d'un Artichaut’ is conceived as a musical exploration of a mathematically complex object of imagination. A sinister artichoke-shaped fractal - an impoverished, degraded version of a genuine fractal - serves as a pretext for a journey through unusual harmonies, textures and patterns; ever-changing yet always similar to itself, at once petal and thorn, it inspires music that is opaque, bristling and, at times, ironic.
The work was premiered on May 6th, 2022 at the Cité de la Musique et de la Danse in Strasbourg (France) by Étienne Ferrer conducting the "Orchestre Symphonique de la HEAR".
