Notes sur cette pièce
Divergente is a one movement piece for E flat alto saxophone. Every indication referring to the quarter-tone and multiphones micro-interval production can be changed or adapted, related to the interpreter technical features and the instrument he’s playing.

This composition emerges as a point of disagreement or creative contrast between the works written by the composer himself for saxophone, at the end of the 90s of the 20th century, like Sisos for alto saxophone and piano, and the composed ones at the beginning of 21st century that take part of “Podemos Hablar” Collection (Soprategmia for soprano saxophone solo, Emiaj for alto saxophone solo, Drogman for tenor saxophone solo, ¿Por Qué No? for baritone saxophone solo and Nimia for alto saxophones duo).

In both musical aesthetic models, the author starts from the same creative principle based on a new concept coined as musical primitivism. If the works of the first period provided a defragmented language, as a kind of pre-construction of the word, based on almost onomatopoeic phonetic speech, typical of sound expressions associated with prehistoric peoples, fundamentally from northern Europe, this new work is built on from a drastic aesthetic contrast as far as its creative principle is concerned, written in an undulating and continuous language, typical of the primitive sub-Saharan speech and voices of the African continent, strongly connected with wind instruments such as bamboo flutes: the Washint and the Embilta, and percussion: Darbouka and Bendir, as well as the use of the ululated voice used by women: Zagruda or Zhagareet, sound sources typical of the ancestral speech of the tribes that inhabited North and Central Africa.
