Notes sur cette pièce
Tågen-tiden-tingen (Trains-time-things) (2010)for sinfonietta and optional video (Video artist: Nathalie Bujold)
All I had were these eight minutes of passing landscapes, pictures and colours. It was silent, but visually hypnotic. To venture into the material became a search for possible intersections between what I brought with me and what I could detract from that which had already been given me. The music consists of a number of materials, different 'timbral tableaux', which during the course of the piece are over-laid, condensed and attenuated. The music constantly repeats itself, but each new combination, each new encounter between the materials, leaves behind new traces. The music shifts its focus. Distant becomes proximate, strong becomes weak. The way the materials communicate and learn from each other may be seen as a metaphor for how the exchange between the video and the music is presented. What transpires is an attempt to allow music and video to speak in a common?but new?language. Not with the same voice, but with the same passion.
