Notes on this piece The main idea for this piece came from the traditional Portuguese song called Fado - from the Latin word fatum, i – meaning destiny. It is about men’s destiny and its fatal characteristic, impossible to escape from and the inevitable attraction to it. The various sources of inspiration are related not only with the Fado song themes but also with the venues’ atmosphere (where these performances take place) and the three musicians usually performing it - the singer, and two guitar players (Portuguese guitar and guitar). There are two actors in the piece, dressed with long black tunics with a hood, being their body completely covered, simulating an imaginative “ghost” figure. They symbolise the unknown and indefinite and at the end of the piece, the pianist is possessed, being covered by a “dark moving cloud” (the actor) and the candle is lighted off with a soft breath.
