Notes on this piece This piece can be played in any saxophone, though it works better on alto and tenor sax.
Integrais (Integrals) is a cycle of pieces for solo instruments written between 1986 and 1989, exploring the possibilities of combinations and permutations, that can be achieved using two different intervals.
The title itself derives from the mathematical process, that refers to the possibility of analysing an integral function, through its derivative. Therefore, the structure and coherence of these pieces is ‘discovered’ in the compositional process, through the analysis of all possible relations existing between the two generating intervals.
Integrais IV, for saxophone solo, uses as generating intervals the minor second and perfect fourth.
