Notes on this piece These two short movements are like a postscript to my work Thibet, fragments after Segalen: they partly use the same musical material, but no longer refer to Segalen. Pespective and expression change; the music is more abstract. The title of the first part bears the Tibetan name for Tibet, that of the second one is a wink at Capra's film, Lost Horizon. These two parts are dedicated to free Tibet and they clearly could have been named “Requiem for Tibet”. This work is the first in a collection of studies which are all short pieces for various chamber ensembles - studies in character, composition and listening, whose challenge lies at least as much in the musical quality necessary for their interpretation as in their more or less difficult execution.
