Notes on this piece Written for the Ball State University Electroacoustic Ensemble, fuse II is second in a series of controlled aleatory compositions that explore the idea of fusing different timbral materials into one entity. The performers are given non-pitched, notational but sometimes graphical rhythmic guidance in a timed improvisation. They are also given the freedom to choose the high, low, and non-pitched instruments, while amplification or live electronics can be added as an augmentation as well. Each performing quintet will eventually find their own way to “fuse” the materials.
