The work of the French composer Claude Debussy (1862-1918) represents undoubtedly an important aesthetic, compositional and conceptual turn: from it emerges a whole new universe of music that breaks with the past in search of new sound sensations sublimating the beauty of the sound by itself.
The trace in my auditory memory of his piano prelude "La cathédral englouti" gives rise to "Émerger", taking from the famous prelude his plasticity conception of sound, his particular structural construction, in addition to certain thematic motives, to be treated here with freedom, recreating self-absorbed in timbre and texture, and associating the sonorous inspiration to the symbolism of the opposite concepts of "englouti" (submerged) and "émerger" (emerge).
The work is commissioned by the clarinetist Luis Fernández Castelló and the pianist Francesc Llop, to whom it is dedicated and who premiered it on April 26, 2018 at the Professional Conservatory of Music of Valencia (Spain); and represents a sincere tribute to the great French composer on the centenary of his death.
