Duo for Violin and Electronics was composed in 2019 and premiered the same year at the Conservatoire de Paris (CNSMDP). It was revised in 2021 for the album Le Violon Augmenté.
For any live electronic music score that brings together acoustic instruments and electroacoustic, I aim for both domains to interact with each other, especially in the case of chamber music pieces. During the performance, the instrumentalist and the computer music performer carefully control their interpretation, listening to and responding to one another.
For this reason, I titled this piece Duo, as I consider the electronic part to be a fully-fledged musical component. The piece unfolds in a calm temporal space, where I applied continuous and gradual transformations and mutations. This approach allowed me to explore the violin’s timbre in greater depth and to develop its relationship with the electronic part, which is conceived as a sonic extension of the transformed instrument. All the sounds blend and merge. The electroacoustic come from real-time processing of the violin part as well as from pre-recorded sound files, created from samples of the same instrument.
