At Ciklus Ensemble we propose a different concert format, exploring long-lasting works, which allows the composer to consider projects that are rarely requested since the usual format is characterized by five or six pieces per concert. Therefore, the creator can explore time beyond 10 or 15 minutes, which inevitably produces music that renews the artist's own thinking.
Based on this solid conviction, Ciklus ensemble made two adaptations: Gargantua (based on the homonymous novel that Rabelais wrote in the 16th century) and Heart of Darkness (based on the famous novel by Joseph Conrad). Both pieces are the living testimony of our activity and passion for creation. We have taken up the idea of the "Teatro del Aire" in a hybridization with theatre and electronics, which has taken us to territories that no one is currently treading, revealing the Ciklus ensemble and Iñaki Estrada as banners committed to creation from all its facets.
Moby Dick, like Gargantua and Heart of Darkness, falls within what we at Ciklus Ensemble re-define as Teatro del Aire: a set of works that to some extent take up the character of the old radio dramas from a contemporary and primarily musical.
These three pieces arise after a search for new ways of understanding the union between music and theatre through an interdisciplinary work in which newly created music, theatre and new technologies are mixed to propose a new way of developing sound dramaturgy.
Moby Dick is the next project in which the Ciklus ensemble takes up, adapts, restructures and explores the stage built around the Teatro del Aire. If Gargantua proposed an instrumental sextet with a narrator, Heart of Darkness eliminated it from the scene and mixed it with more actors in a radio drama with electronics in real time, Moby Dick will hybridise between both worlds, including an actor on stage who will relate to the rest of the cast. pre-recorded cast in the old style of radio drama. All this, as usual, is mixed with an instrumental group processed in real-time and mixed with electronics in delayed time, also using a cinematographic foley (ambient soundtrack), which will transport us to every moment of the wonderful novel Hernan Melville wrote.
