Play all audio recordingsJacobo Gaspar Grandal (composer and rechercher) was born in Mos in 1975. He studied Composition at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo, received Postgraduated studies with José Manuel López López at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón and holds a Ph. D. in Musicology from the University of Oviedo. He also has a Degree in Economic Sciencies from the University of Vigo.
He has received important awards such as the first prize “Xavier Montsalvatge” in the “XX Premio Jóvenes Compositores Fundación Autor – CDMC” (Madrid), the first prize in the “VI International Jurgenson Competition for Young Composers” (Moscow), the ‘Special Prize’ and the ‘Audience Prize’ in the Isang Yun International Composition Prize 2013 (Seoul), the honour mention in the 36 edition of the International Composition Contest ‘Valentino Bucchi-Parco della Musica’(Roma) or the second prize in the ‘8º Concurso Internacional de Composición da Póvoa de Varzim’ (Portugal).
He is interested in the sound, music and the relationship between them: that is, in the artistic use of all the sound matter. Often, this interest for the entire sound space is achieved through models that are, mimetic or symbolically, taken from the natural environment. This is not to highlight possible referential meanings of sound, but as a means to get into sound spaces that, due to its acoustic complexity, are particularly attractive to the author.
Nowadays he teaches Composition and Music Theory at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo.
