Notes sur cette pièce
Aus tiefer Not… (2014)
Written for Wiktor KociubanThe connotation of Aus tiefer Not … to the Psalm 130 is not that of a religious piety but rather the tradition of practicing solitude for means of spiritual purification. The cry from depths of pain and loneliness, the struggle for being heard, and yet the pain and loneliness are gladly chosen.Perhaps the creation of a piece of art resembles such faith. Aus tiefer Not … is extremely difficult to perform, yet in such an unconventional and unflashy way that only the player realizes. The extents of continuous high intensity and physical demands of the piece over a period of 20 minutes could only be achieved with a meditation in solitude. Here the player stands, alone and naked before inquisitive ears and eyes, struggles or suffers of a self-inflicted intensity, yet this is the only path to pursue. The piece is written in two parts, each of these parts could be performed separately as an individual piece with the same title, or together as a whole piece. This piece is written for Wiktor Kociuban and commissioned with the help of Estonian Ministry of Culture and Estonian Composers Union.
